Welcome to Silver Star Miniature Horse Farm, the home of the Tazstar Miniature Horse.

The Tazstar is a unique, small, refined thoroughbred type of miniature horse free from pony characteristics.

Silver Star Miniature Horse Farm is located 20 km North of Launceston, Tasmania, Australia.
Our 460-acre farm is on the West Bank of the Tamar River Valley. Our house is set high on a hill overlooking the magnificent Tamar River.

The Tamar River Valley is a fertile region with beautiful contrasts such as scenic pastures, orchards, forests and some 45 vineyards.

Our property has abundant bush for shelter with many hills and valleys allowing our horses to roam freely. Some of the paddocks consist of a hundred acres or more, this provides a natural setting for the mares and stallions and an excellent environment for the foals to grow and play.

Over many years we bred our horses down in height from our spotted horse line that combined thoroughbred, riding pony, welsh and some part Arabian horses in its lineage.
We paid meticulous attention to the horses we selected and added to our breeding program. Each horse was studied and chosen for the characteristics that would improve the appearance, conformation and movement of our miniature horse line.

We have selectively bred our horses for balanced conformation, with the smooth blending of neck, back and hip of equal length to insure a good moving horse and one that excels in performance. Our horses are bred to be natural, balanced athletes.

We strive for pretty head definition, a head with small ears and one that is broad between the eyes with a clean, slender throatlatch and a graceful arched neck.

Our horses have a good shoulder and topline, with a distinct wither and a short, strong back.

They have clean, correct legs with enough length in the pastern to promote a floating, flowing action.

Our Tazstar horses have fine lustrous coats, some horses are almost metallic in appearance and their coats reflect a rainbow of colours in the sun.

Like all animals, Miniature Horses deserve to be treated and handled with understanding and kindness. Adequate food, shelter and space to move around freely are the basic needs of miniature horses, as they are with all horses. A fantastic show horse or just a pet, they all should receive the same loving care, kindness and protection by their human owners.

The Miniature Horse truly is "the horse for all ages"
